About this campaign

Nevada County, CA

Let Spiral Know You Want a Gigabit

Spiral is building a Gigabit 100% fiber-optic Internet network in western Nevada County.

Our underground network will be located along the roads, running all the way to the premises to directly connect homes and businesses. There will be no cost to households for us to bring the fiber optic cable from the road to your home, if you sign up for service prior to our construction periods.

According to federal broadband standards, the only providers serving Nevada County that can offer speeds that work for modern Internet applications are the cable franchises Comcast and Suddenlink.  Our goal is to offer service where they refuse to go, and that still leaves a lot of territory to cover.

We have divided western Nevada County into three phases. The cost of building the first phase is about to be funded, in part, by a California Public Utilities Commission grant. The matching amount is being raised by private funds, and we want to show our investors that, in all three phases that we've mapped, households are really interested in our new ultra-fast service.

This is where you come in.

We need you to show us that you're interested in our new service by (1) filling out the form, and finding out if you're located in the project areas we mapped; and (2) then showing your interest by sending us your contact information. We will be hosting informational meetings in your local community as we progress.

If you're outside our mapped areas, then let us know that you have a neighborhood of people who want in. We're local and will respond to your request.

Even though funding has not yet been secured for phases 2 and 3, we absolutely plan to build all three phases. All of this will take time -- about 5-7 years overall. But, remember, we're building a network that will be scalable and usable for 100 years.

So there is no need to do anything now, except to say you're in. There's no obligation by doing that. It's that easy to start.

About Spiral

Spiral is most recently an Internet Service Provider (ISP). But its background is web site development, graphic design, direct marketing, and database programming. In Spring 2006, the Nevada County Community Network (NCCN) Board of Directors asked Chip Carman and John Paul, the owners of Spiral, to bring new services and energies to their customer base. Because of Spiral’s active community volunteer work in western Nevada County, NCCN felt we were the perfect fit to take care of the over 200 non-profit organizations, as well as over 1500 customers, that rely on friendly, reliable Internet access, web site hosting and technical support. We thought about it for a few days, then came back and said “yes”.

Since 1986, Spiral has also provided creative services to a wide range of clientele including book & magazine publishers, high-tech industries, medical facilities, trade show companies, and manufacturers – adding professional web site development to their scope of services in 1997.
